I make botanical treasures, free standing studies and wearable pieces out of silks, cotton, wool and wire, with free motion embroidery techniques to 'paint' with thread. Once embroidered, the silk is then starched, molded and dried to maintain rigidity and shape.
I use the best quality environmentally friendly materials I can find. My silks are bought as deadstock where I can, my yarns and threads are natural fibers, and my glues, fixings and stabalisers contain zero plastics and are biodegradable.
Reminiscent of antiquated old botanical illustrations, I recreate as much detail from the stamen to the roots - all created from fabrics and threads.
I am lucky enough to live in the heart of the Devon countryside, where I find inspiration abound with every coming season!
I am open for commissions!
I make small pieces of wearable jewellery. Embroidered on silk and taffeta fabrics, they are lightweight and detailed, with a silver plated brooch fixing at the back.
since 2019 I have exhibited at MAKE exhibition, Devon Guild of Crafters, sold at craft fairs and artisan events across the south west of England, and my work can be purchased online and in selected Makers and Crafts shops and galleries.
